May is National Asparagus month, a celebration of one of nature's powerhouses.
The British asparagus season typically runs from April 24th to June 21st, although this can vary depending on the vagaries of the British weather. This year it seems all the asparagus is in hiding until spring finally arrives, and who can blame it?
Although not universally popular - many complain it makes their wee smell funny - asparagus is an undoubted super veg. It's packed with vitamins A, B and C, virtually fat-free and full of fibre and folic acid, making it great for expectant mothers. It's also good for the heart, skin, nails and hair and boosts the immune system and cancer defences. Wow!
So, if you fancy joining in the asparagus festivities, why not pay your local Strada a visit and sample our Risotto Verdure - grilled asparagus on a risotto of edamame and green beans, peas, spring onions, courgette, spinach, white wine and mint.
